Biography and career
Olivier Umecker is a graphic designer and typographer, but most of all a creative artist and a researcher.
Some of his main passions are : poetry and asian art, he draws inspiration of what he calls the "brevity of tiny joys" wich Haiku characterize.
Umecker expresses himself with diversed supports, exploring many techniques with gouache, ink and his collection of calligraphy brushes or pencils.
From his black Chinese ink series to his stained compositions in which each color seems to communicate : his relationship to signs is visible.
He explores this abstract universe of multiple forms in which each space makes sens. An infinite construction, like a symphony in which colours and materials are setting the tempo and harmonize by a line or a dot.
Born in Strabourg in 1974, Olivier Umecker lives and works in Roubaix.
He got his graduate of Graphic Communication from the HEAR in 1999.
Since 2000, he is artistic director for cultural institutions and publisher.
